A CSCS Card is considered as proof that the individual working on the construction site is having all the required skill set, knowledge, learning and training for the job they are carrying out. Housebuilders and contractors give priority to hiring resources who holds CSCS card so that they can minimize the possibility of accidents on-site and make it a safe place to work.

CSCS cards were introduced in 1995 to make people trained for their health and safety and create awareness among the workers working on site. With the introduction of these cards, a standard level of safety is introduced across the construction industry.

Why I need a CSCS card?

To get work on a construction site you need to have a CSCS card. Without the card, you might not be allowed to work in the construction industry as all major contractors and housebuilders prefer CSCS card tradesmen to work on their site.

Is holding CSCS Card is legal requirement?

No, there is no legal requirement even the usage of CSCS cards is very popular. This is totally optional to hold CSCS Card.

However, if you are interested to work in the construction industry then it is better to get a CSCS card for yourself as all big contractors, major house builders, large firms and project companies give preference to give work opportunities to the people holding the card in comparison to the one who is not having the card.

How many different types of CSCS Cards are there?

There are mainly 11 different levels of CSCS Cards in 6 different colours. The colours of CSCS card depends on the level of skill of cardholder. 

  1. Labourer (Green CSCS Card) – Green
  2. Apprentice Card – Red
  3. Experienced Worker Card – Red
  4. Trainee Card – Red
  5. Skilled Worker – Blue
  6. Advanced Craft – Blue
  7. Supervisory – Gold
  8. Manager – Black
  9. Academically Qualified Person – White
  10. Professionally Qualified Card – White
  11. Provisional Card – Red

Green/Labourer – This is for the individuals who are involved in groundwork on construction sites with little experience or starting out in the construction industry and looking to start an entry-level position.

Blue/Skilled Worker – This card is for those who are having experience in construction and who have achieved a NVQ Level 2.

Gold/Supervisory – This is for the more advanced who are in more supervisory roles.

Black/Managers – This card is applicable for experienced workers that hold a managerial role on a construction site.

White/Academically Qualified – This card is for individuals who are having the highest level of expertise for senior managers or industry board members.

How to successfully complete CSCS Course

In the United Kingdom, construction sector is booming and construction related jobs are scaling up of employment, if you are a tradesman or a ground worker or labourer and looking forward to join and work on construction sites then you need a CSCS Card.
