What is a CSCS card?
A CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card is physical proof that you are rightly qualified and have the appropriate training to work safely on-site. Although they are not a legislative requirement, employers across the UK are making CSCS services mandatory for working on a construction site. There are over a dozen types of CSCS Cards that reflect the different occupations and qualifications within the construction sector, ranging from trainee to managerial roles.
What is a CSCS Provisional Card?
Provisional CSCS cards are a part of the Red CSCS cards, a group of temporary cards made for individuals working on a construction site that are working towards a relevant qualificationin the industry. The provisional CSCS card is available to individuals who have never had a CSCS card before and are actively working through a probationary period while employers evaluate their suitability for employment.
Unlike other CSCS cards, the provisional card is only valid for a 6 month period. It is advised that upon the expiration of the provisional card, the workerachieves a relevant construction qualification within their field during this period, and then apply for the correct CSCS card.
In order to get a provisional CSCS card, it is essential to pass the following credentials:
- Completed an Operatives Health & Safety test within the last 2 years
- Be aged 16+
- Must not have owned any CSCS cards previously
How much does a CSCS Provisional Card cost?
A provisional CSCS card costs £36. However, this cost excludes the Operatives Health &Safety test that must be taken in order to get the card if you have not yet already.
